WHY WE EXIST | to know Jesus & make him known in everyday life.
And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. John 17:3
And he [Jesus]is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell. Colossians 1:18-19
It is all about Jesus.
CityLights Church is about knowing Jesus and making him known in everyday life. This is why we exist. Our mission is to know Jesus and participate in His mission.
As a church, we want to know Jesus not just know about him. We want to grow in walking in the Spirit and have an interactive and personal relationship with God. This is expressed by how we aim to continually grow as a people of prayer.
We also want to make Jesus known. We want to show and share Jesus with others. Christs great commission is for His disciples to go out and make disciples (Matthew 28:18-19). Every follower of Jesus is sent to make Jesus known and make disciples. Disciples make disciples. God is a sent and sending God and as we enter into relationship with the triune God we become a sent and sending people. Jesus was sent, the Spirit is sent, and we are sent. Through our words, lives, and community we want Jesus to be made known so people can come to know Jesus as King and Savior.
John 20:21 Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.
Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
We, the church, are about knowing Jesus and making him known. This relates to loving God and loving people (Matthew 22:36-40). You are invited to journey with us in this great calling, privilege, and adventure of knowing Jesus and making him known. This is why we exist.
God does not have a mission for his Church; He has a Church for His mission. Chris Wright
